For roughly six months, four Warpshadow members have been collaborating on the most secret of projects. This endeavour has unfolded on a private yahoo group, far from the prying eyes of anyone else on the net.

The project started off with a running gag between Moloch and Verm1s. Verm1s had done a sketch of an Orkoid Genestealer, and Moloch pestered him incessantly to come up with more sketches for Genestealers based on genetic stock from other “major” races in the Warhammer 40K universe. Verm1s finally obliged, rendering his first concept sketch of a Genestealer based on Eldar genetic stock. From this catalyst, Genestealer Genus (also referred to as the Genoproject) was born.

Verm1s started a Yahoogroup and Moloch approached Mr. Pink (who had always boasted about his intent to convert Eldar- and Ork-stealers) and Hive Trygon (who’s prodigious sculpting abilities made him the perfect candidate for a Genus participant), asking them to join the group. Everyone agreed and the Genoproject began. None of the members were sure exactly what they were aiming towards (ideas about casting original genestealer conversion bits or even trying to get featured in WD were brandished about), but they went to task with the nebulous goal of mutating each of the major powers of the 40K universe into its own genus of Genestealer. Verm1s produced sketch after sketch, working the Eldar and Ork Genestealers through numerous versions until he was satisfied. He has also recently produced sketches for Kroot and Tau Genestealers. Hive Trygon was the first to complete an Eldar Genestealer sculpt and has since worked through numerous versions. Mr. Pink kitbashed and sculpted his own versions of both the Eldar and Ork Stealer, using Verm1s sketches as a starting point. Moloch…well, he acted as the resident cheerleader and ideafarm since he had some much bigger bugs on his plate.

Another Warpshadow Member, Navarro, has recently become associated with the Genoproject. The hive mind works in mysterious ways, and Navarro actually came up with the same idea as the Genestealer Genus participants without their influence. He pretty much puts the group to shame with his prolific output.

What is shown in this feature is the progress that the group has made in their first six months together, and we all hope that they have plenty more in store for the Tyranid community. Rest assured that the Genoproject has only just begun, and there are many more hybrid Genestealers that these fiendish minds are eager to bring to life!
