Time for another update, don't you think? But this update is a little different from the previous. First of all are these words not written by the famous Moloch himself, so please don't blame him for typos. It is the "new guy" writing this.
The second thing, that is different this time, is the content of the update. No miniatures, but drawings are added to the
[Spawning Vat].

Tobias Beis has been dragged over from the german GW-Fanworld-Forum and translated his marvelous comics for us.
Nacho Fernandez Gonzalez could be won for a couple of drawings of HF Moloch and HF Hydra. The fantastic Ravener drawing has be re-coloured by his wife. And, next to some Gargoyle sketches and some Genestealer-Cultist ideas, there is hopefully more to come. Enjoy these great works and may the Skymother protect you!

Simon Schnitzler, 5 December 2007

Update time !
Firstoff it seemed a wise decision to get Hive Fleet Hydra aboard. Soon after that happened the twisted mastermind behind it got himself not one but two Golden Demon awards at the Canadian Golden Demons, one of them in Gold !
The other Demon in Bronze was given to him for his amazing job at converting a Scythed Hierodule into a Dominatrix. This model was inspired by Warren Beatties famous Dominatrix sketch and has already been copied by others.
This means that we have no less than six models here that have been awarded a Golden Demon trophy with Nr. 7 (Simon`s Inquisitor band) underway.

We also have been rather busy in getting Simon`s huge Tyranid back catalog online.

Brood One
Brood Two
Brood Three

show how many amazing Tyranids he has churned out for Hive Fleet Hydra in the last years.
Not wanting to totally surrender to his gene-splicing abilities Katja and me did a couple of models for Hive Fleet Ouroboros:

Flying Hive Tyrant(thumbs 14-30)
Broodlord (first 5 thumbs)
Zoanthopres (3 new pics)

And finally some of the most inspiring sketches ever done for Tyranids have found a resting place on this site. Although Roberto C does not work for GW anymore, his work should not be forgotten.

Roberto`s Sketches

That`s it for today, but the next Update should be here in record time, probably September. With the Second Tyrannic War campaign weekend right around the next corner a few amazing models will show up here. Mr. Pink and Simon already have some awesome beasties lurking in their bio-sleeves.

Marco Schulze, 26 July .2007

Monsters Over Nottingham

In early June three members of the Warpshadow community met at the very heart of the Games Workshop hobby.
Mr. Pink, the mighty Hydra and yours truly had two days and two nights to cause as much carnage as possible before retreating back into the shadows.
Of course we visited Warhammer World where Hive Fleets Kelly and Moloch finally got the chance to see who`s best in a duel. The prize was to be.....Minas Tirith.
After a battle of titanic (or was it apocalpytic ?) proportions Hive Fleet Moloch proved how much higher evolved it was.
No one was really suprised by this outcome as Hive Fleet Kelly is all show and no claws.
We also got the chance to meet Jes & Phil whom we pestered as much as possible with niddy topics. They insisted that other armies had to get some love too. We did not quite get that point.       For some weird reason we discussed Gargoyle design a lot and Jes in typical form used his whole body (you don`t wanna know ;) ) to show us what he meant. Among other too-weird-to-mention-rituals this resulted in the “Happy Gargoyles Dance”.

Below are a few impressions of our time in Nottingham. It might be wise to only catch a few quick peeks if you want your sanity to remain intact. Many thanks go to Jes & Phil for being such wonderful hosts.

Time for another Update.

And this time it`s a special one.

Remember the Teaser ?

Simon Schnitzler also known as the mighty Hydra has decided to join the local Hive making this site even more of a team effort.
Some of you might have noticed his small gallery in the Spawning Vat.
He has been producing one stunning model after the other for years now. I am sure that everyone who has seen his inspiring work agrees that his models definitely deserve a bigger virtual gallery on the net. This effectively means that there will be a third Hive Fleet permanently featured here besides Moloch and Ouroboros called

Hive Fleet Hydra

I am very, very happy that Simon decided to join and feel deeply honoured to have a monster like him here.

Welcome aboard, Hydra ! I

hope that this will have us doing Updates more frequently.

But Katja and me have not been exactly lazy ourselves. With the release of the current Codex: Tyranids the shooty Godzilla army has become very popular among gamers. I had already decided to do one in the Ouroboros pattern when the Warpshadow member Vsurma was one of the first to discover it`s potency.
I immediately fell in love with the symmetry of the army and the fact that it features many large monsters. The Psychic Choir is also a very strong image if you consider the background and people just loosing it when faced with the horror of the Great Devourer.
Incidentally the two Carnifex variants commonly used with this kind of army (Devilfex and Gunfex) don`t look too hot with the otherwise awesome model. That was what finally sold me to the idea as it allowed me to take up the challenge.

Enter

Devilfex #1  Devilfex #2

Babyphant (Gunfex)

Not being that disciplined we got sidetracked by the latest Gargantuan Creature which was just begging to be painted up.

Trygon

Right now we are working on the Zoanthropes and another flying Tyrant. They should be finished very soon.

In my other favourite passtime, SCUBA diving, I have been lured onto a long, dark path. The decision to take up underwater photography made me say goodbye to my trusty old Olympus Camedia C3030 Zoom. With the fancy new E 400 model pictures should also benefit. Or so I thought.
Imagine my surprise when the first couple of photos turned out worse. That`s probably why they say that it`s not the camera but the photographer that counts..........

Oh, and please take note that the Tempus Fugitives will have a massive campaign weekend early September in Warhammer World, Nottingham. The second Tyrannic War will be fought there and Hive Fleet Hydra as well as Hive Fleet Ouroboros plan to be there.

Maybe you too ?

Already in May I knew that the German Games Day 2006 would be something special for me.

This was a bit of a surprise as I had already decided not to go there this year. After all it`s a five to six hour ride from Berlin to Cologne and I had no desire to enter models into the Golden Demon competition anymore. Been there, done that.

But Phil Kelly & Jes were to be present as special guests for the first time in Germany. Both are very close to my heart beyond toy soldiers and planet eating monsters from outer space.

As if this wouldn`t have been reason enough to go by itself, fate dealt another card for the final shove. Nick Jones aka as Mr. Pink of Warpshadow fame and I had talked about meeting once in real life for years. He`s Canadian, so one can see that the chances of this really happening weren`t great. Funnily enough he planned to be in Estonia around the same time as the German Games Day.

Things began moving then. When I would go there anyway I thought why not enter the Golden Demon with some models we had done for the Forgeworld book “Imperial Armour IV – The Anphelion Project”. As they had seen mainly black`n`white coverage in the book they were still fresh enough.

Months ago I had knocked together a model I had been pondering for a long time. A hijacked Crisis suit piloted by a Kroot for the infamous Kroot renegades. Games Day was a good reason to get it painted.

It didn`t end there though. Mr. Pink had been working on a Carnifex conversion based on GW-Roberto`s Biovore sketches. This model was meant to close the gap to the classic Exocrine artillery beast and had received a vast amount of positive attention on Warpshadow. He had never got round to painting it though, so we thought about entering it into the Demons as a team effort.

Games Day which I hadn`t even intended to visit initially then became a blur of adrenaline fueled fun. I went there with Nick. We met with the German speaking Warpshadow crowd, partied hard with Phil & Jes and literally swept at the Golden Demon competition.

A Bronze Demon was awarded to Katja and me for the

“Shoot the Big Ones” Duel

Yet another Bronze Demon in 40K Monster went to Katja and Nick for the

Exocrine (same page, thumbs 7-14)

I got a Silver Demon in 40K Monster for the

Kroot Renegades` Prize Crisis Suit

And a beautiful Golden Demon was awarded to Katja and me in 40K Squad for the

Hive Fleet Ouroboros Flying Tyranid Warriors

The competition looked very tough this year, so I was extremely suprised that every model we entered got an award. Here`s the whole gang of demonic goodness:

Golden Demons

On a very hung-over post-Games-Day Monday we got to practice the secret-society greeting that Jes had invented. You just wiggle some fingers to mimic Feeder Tentacles and make a fitting sound. On this picture you see from left to right:

Brood Brothers

Yours truly, Jes Goodwin, Phil Kelly, Graham Mcneill, Nick Jones (“Mr. Pink”) and Simon Schnitzler (“Hydra”)

Oh, and yes, Phil and Graham really got into the swing of things. They look scary.

A slightly more detailed account of the whole affair can be found at

http://forum.warpshadow.com/viewtopic.php?t=7024&start=15

Funny how life sometimes goes. From my decision not to go to Games Day to what happened in the end is quite the big step. And now I look forward to three weeks of diving, the next best thing to imagining monsters.

Life is good………

............and it`s time for another Update.

Yes, it`s been year since the last one, but I won`t bore you with more excuses.

Some major things have changed with the way this all works. The most important one is that it`s become a staff effort. With this particular update

Lakouang

Mr. Pink

Dachande

of Warpshadow fame have all helped to get things together.

In addition our stalwart webmaster Torge has used his mysterious ‘net-voodoo skills to not only change the navigation but also the site design.

But you are not reading this to learn about the mechanics of the Updates, right ?

So here’s what`s new:

Along with Mr. Pink I got the incredible chance to pick the minds of Tony Cottrell and Simon Egan. Tony is the head of Forgeworld and Simon the man responsible for sculpting all of the big Tyranid monsters they have released so far. Sadly the interview was done before the release of “Imperial Armour IV – The Anphelion Project” so some answers are not as fresh as they were in March, but there is still a lot of interesting information in the

Interview with Tony Cottrell and Simon Egan

The Spawning Vat received a healthy dose of new monsters:

a feature on Hellric`s Monsters, all of them winged

Dachande`s Uber-Tyrant

Lakouang’s Tyranid-Size-Comparison-Chart

a feature on Hive Brood Hydra, one of the most exciting swarms you have ever seen

In our background section we also got a couple of new pieces

Sheep`s Clothing by Dachande

The One by Dachande

and

It Never Rains by Jules

For “Imperial Armour IV – The Anphelion Project” Katja and me got the opportunity to do some Tyranid models. This forced us to abandon the red`n`black we were so used to. The new scheme kinda stuck, so there is a whole new gallery section. The

Hive Fleet Ouroboros Gallery

Not suprisingly the Prey Species section got the attention of a

Deathwatch Grand Master

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this Update. By now the whole site has swelled to a healthy size and it wouldn`t have been possible without all the great contributions.

But can our hunger truly be satisfied ?

Eat the Universe !!!

Marco Schulze, 3.8.2006

Edit: We just received a warm shower of awards at the German Games Day 2006. So the next Update will be online soon. And it even has Kroot !

^ top ^

Welcome to the latest Update around here. Came much faster than the last one, right ?

This just might have something to do with the fact that this update features not a single painted miniature from Katja and me which just might be a hint as to why proceedings are usually so slow around here.

And amazingly this update isn`t less exciting for it. Quite the opposite.

The latest Tyranid Codex has now been around for some time. Brooded together with the enquiring minds of the Warpshadow Gestalt conciousness I got the golden chance to pick the brains of Jes Goodwyn and Phil Kelly on Magpies, Redistribution Block Alpha, therapy and what this has to do with Tyranids. I am happy to say that it will all finally be explained. When reading it please bear in mind that the questions were asked before the actual Codex was out.

Interview Jes & Phil

Yes, we all know the metal Gargoyles are fiddly, expensive and prone to breaking at the first opportunity. Mr. Pink insists that this has not been the driving force behind his very own Gargoyle which is a little different than it`s winged brothers. Behold Ladies and Gentlemen the one and only

Rocket Gaunt by Mr. Pink

Just to pretend that I would also contribute something solid for this update, here`s a model which has been lying around for ages, is unfinished, unpainted and will in all likeliness never be complete.

Yay for me and my titanic efforts !

Nevertheless I still believe the concept behind it is quite interesting.

WIP Reclamation Spider

Jules is what you would probably call a Tyranid veteran. He`s been around for some time and in the old days of the Tyranids Yahoo group he brought us tears of laughter with his stories about Hormie. This short trilogy is a classic piece by him, being part one of the Space is Cold Trilogy of short stories.

Background pieces by Jules

The Geneproject section sadly got a little mixed up during the last Update. I hope it is better now.

I am also happy to report that our resident Bio-factory Navarro took a break just like the rest of the group. I am not entirely convinced though that the word “break” has the same meaning in Portuguese as it has in English, because he managed to crank out yet another three involved kitbashes of more Genestealer variants.

Snake Stealer by Navarro
Cobra Stealer by Navarro
Alien Stealer by Navarro

The new Carnifex has been received by many as one of the best models Games Workshop has done.
As soon as the first models hit the shelves it became apparent that the versatility of the kit allows for a gazillion options. That is if you go for a “normal” Carnifex. If you are suffering from a severe case of compulsive-converting-disorder the amount of possibilities is probably endless. Hence the following examples in the Spawning Vat section which magificiently show how advanced approaches lead to results which are in some cases interesting modifications of the monster, in others the design is so changed that it`s become a completely different beast. Each of those examples made me jump out of my seat and I am proud to present these models done by a talented gathering of chaps (whose anonymity we shall ensure by using their Warpshadow/Dakka sigs).

In no particular order:

Arachnifex by Entomologist
Seafex by Entomologist
Spine Devil by Entomologist
Babyfex by Darwin
Babyfex by Gabe
Gunfex by Necros
Standing Fex by Hive Fleet M
Babyphant by Invivos
Babyphant by Hive Fleet M

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this Update. I always wanted this page to be more than just a gallery for my models which is why this update is special to me. This fits nicely to my final announcement that we are currently in the process of revamping parts of the site and switching servers because the whole thing has fed well and grown faster than planned. So far everything has worked smoothly thanks to the tireless toiling of webmaster Torge. But if you encounter any problems, please let us know.

Marco, 9. August 2005

^ top ^;

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you. Friedrich Nietzsche

Hmm, please excuse my blatant attempt to use a witty introductory quote to distract from the latest delay in updates.

But here it is. And as late as it might be, it certainly is a huge one.

When you read this the new Tyranid Codex has already been released in most parts of the world. While the book and the models were being worked on I had the incredible luck to get a few looks on the proceedings and have even been allowed to drop the odd comment or two. The icing on the cake certainly was to see a few Moloch models in the book and being mentioned in the credit list.
So it’s no suprise that I am a little excited about this release. In my view the Tyranid model range has never been so coherent and so cool. As many realised early on, this doesn’t make the older models unusable. Quite the opposite in fact. The number of possibilities to create cool models with old and new parts has vastly increased.

In addition to being allowed some sneak peeks I was also privileged to get a few models in advance of the Codex release.
Here they are:

-V4 Lictor
-V4 Tyrant Guard
-Broodlord

The crowning jewel of the whole release has to be the new Carnifex model with it’s many options to customise different variants of the beast. You can probably imagine the look on my face when I was asked if I wanted to paint six of them for a whole army consisting nearly only of Monstrous Creatures. Katja and me certainly didn’t have much spare time in winter, but we are proud of the result, the

- Godzilla Army

On other fronts the Tyranid community had to fight the growing tension before the Codex release. I can report that not everyone drowned his mind with booze and hookers. An idea which has been hinted at here already bore seed within the twisted minds of a select few: The Genus Stealers. Focussing on the idea of what would happen if a Genestealer implanted a different host than a human this dubious lot got together in secret to ponder the nature of the beast. Little did we know that the Tyranid Codex would even feature Ork Stealers. Here are the incredibly cool first interim results of the

- Genoproject

Despite that virtual flood of Tyranid goodness I have to pretend that the Kroot army is still getting some love. I said the Kroot army. The Tau in it are certainly not getting any nice vibes whatsoever. Look here for a proof. And this is just the start.

- Fire Warriors

To tidy the whole thing up the previous Cover pictures are now available in their own, little place at the top of this page, the

- Cover Picture Archive

With so many things we worked on during the last months Katja and me are fairly burnt out in regard to ‘Nids right now, but there is a nice, little SCUBA vacation on the horizon which might just rectify that. And if there is any place which lets my ‘Nid imagination run full speed it’s a coral reef. The sponges and different corals down there just scream “Tyranid”. And if you’ve ever heard of a Mantis Shrimp you know that Raveners exist on this world... Marco, May 2005

Yes, this particular Magus is a bit grumpy.

That's because he is waiting for the Hive Fleet.
And sometimes it's just hard to remain patient.
It's the same for many Tyranid players right now. The Tyranid Codex is supposed to be released within the next six months and the tension is noticable wherever two 'nid players meet.

2005 is definitely going to be the year of the Tyranid with many exciting new models on the horizon and new rules to tinker with. If nothing more it's going to be fun to adapt to the new rules and learn how to get the best out of them for your swarm. After all that's what we 'nids do best.
  Magus

But on to my usual excuses for the delay in updates. Last time I expressed my hope that the next update would be faster. Well, it took twice as much time. And it's smaller. ("Booo" I hear your say)

Real life has had a few very special surpises in store for me, so it was a bit harder to dedicate time and energy to tiny replicas of man-eating-monsters-from-outer-space.

But still Katja and me have been busy with little toy soldiers. We even have finished a few models. Some of them are part of this update, others have to hide in the closet till the world is ready for them.

I know that I also promised some Tyranid scenery. The cover picture shows one not-quite-finished piece, more to follow soon.

But instead of writing more about what is missing here's what we have:

-Yet another background piece from writer extraordinaire Mr. Pink on the   possibility of  Gigas Swarms.

-More in-progress pictures of  Project Hel.

-A wonderful collection of funny 'Nid-thumbs courtesy of  Lakouang and   Warpshadow.

-Some more reinforcements (last 3 thumbs) for the Kroot Renegades.

Not enough ? I assure you this is only the calm before the storm.

2005 is going to be a great year for the Hive Fleets. And even when some of the upcoming surprises might not be to everyone's taste as a Tyranid you got to embrace change.

'Tis our nature...

Marco, 10. February 2005

It took longer than planned, but I'm happy to announce that the very first update after our initial launch is fairly large.
Before I allow myself the indulgence of celebrating the new content I would like to thank all of you who sent me feedback. I was certainly satisfied with this site, but I was definitely not prepared for such a warm wave of approval. Thanks a lot ! This kind of feedback helps to keep all of us who work on hivefleetmoloch going.

See ? Even monsters need love...

But before I let a weakness like that get into the way of the swarm, here's what's in the update:

-The Crimson Stalkers of Tenebra Prime
Hive Fleet Moloch's very own Kill Team

-I am especially happy that the site indeed evolves to be more than a  showcase for my models. So I am very proud that we have lots of  stunning contributions by talented modellers from all over the world in  our Spawning Vat:

-Mr. Pink presents a truly monstrous Carnifex in Project: Hel

-Ed Fortae and Mr. Grendel give Godzilla the creeps with their city-block  sized Bio Titans.

-William James Cuffe spawned a magnificient invisible Lictor.

-Mr. Grendel gave way to the complaints of his swarm: He made them a  beautiful Malefactor transport, so they don't have to walk, uh scuttle,  anymore.

-The Background section has received a stunning new Tenebra story  from the twisted mind of Mr. Pink. As if this wasn't good enough the  Crimson Stalkers get some space to do what they do best.

-The Kroot Renegades in the Prey Species section so far consisted of only one model. Not quite enough to take over the universe, so they received reinforcements.

I think there should be something for everyone in this update. Many thanks to all those who contributed.
Sadly we still have to turn gazillions of people down who requested 'Stealer sketches based on different species from artisto-magnificiento Warren. He insists that this art stuff takes time.

I hope the next update won't take so long. Katja and me are currently working on more Kroot Renegades and Tyranid Terrain.

If you read this and think that you also have something monstrous which might just fit in: Please don't hesitate and drop me a line.
